La nuova collezione di Absent Findings si presenta come un’estensione delle precedenti: una continua esplorazione tra memoria, surrealismo e abito. 

Fondata con l’idea di andare oltre una semplice “etichetta di moda”, Shivin Singh si propone di indagare l’intersezione tra memoria, architettura e patrimonio culturale. Anche se il brand ha sede a Dubai, è profondamente legato a Firenze. Si attinge a tessuti dimenticati, narrazioni personali di vita e immaginari surrealisti che possano arricchire la poetica e la tecnicità di essi. Combinando l’innovazione con il minimalismo, le collezioni si caratterizzano per elementi destrutturati, audaci asimmetrie e silhouette inaspettate.

“Not What You Think”

La collezione FW2026/27 di Absent Findings presenta questo nuovo capitolo all’interno di un progetto a lungo termine che mira a definire il suo linguaggio. Nella collezione si crea un nucleo emotivo. La collezione cattura la vividezza dei sogni e nel suo nucleo emotivo esplora lo stato liminale. I momenti sembrano intensamente reali e connessi, eppure si trova difficoltà nel descriverli. 

La palette cromatica nasce da un dipinto di Francis Bacon, l’artista prediletto dello stilista. Anche qui il colore viene usato emotivamente, con toni attenuanti e sfumature intense; la palette si presenta più psicologica che decorativa. Le silhouette continuano la linea di Absent Findings con proporzioni allungate, drappeggi controllati ed interventi strutturali che definiscono la collezione. La sartorialità e la costruzione vengono portate oltre.

I riferimenti visivi della collezione

La collezione si centra sull’architettura, il surrealismo, il sari e la memoria, approcciati da una prospettiva più interiore ed onirica. Per questo Shivin Singh attinge a universi surrealisti e d’avanguardia che esplorano l’inconscio. Un riferimento è stato il dipinto di Salvador Dalí “Head of Roses”, che ha influenzato le forme e la dimensione emotiva della collezione. Quest’opera si traduce in silhouette precise ma fluide e volutamente irrisolte.

I cortometraggi di David Lynch, “The Alphabet” e “Rabbits”, che con la loro immobilità perturbante e costante senso di inquietudine, danno allo stilista la forma di creare nei capi la sensazione di essere sospesi nel momento. L’ispirazione arriva anche dalla scultura sacerdotale sumera Prêtre Sumérien. Conferisce alla collezione un senso di ritualità e viene controbilanciata dal modernismo con costumi teatrali creati da Oskar Schlemmer durante il Bauhaus.

Collaborazioni

Il marchio collabora con l’AFRO Fashion Association, che mette in luce le disuguaglianze e la mancanza di rappresentanza che affliggono i creativi emergenti africani e BIPOC. Purtroppo, questo fenomeno non riguarda solo il sistema italiano, ma anche i sistemi della moda internazionale. Fondata da Michelle Francine Ngonmo, l’associazione si dedica alla promozione dei talenti e funge da ponte tra i creativi e l’industria attraverso il mentoring, il networking e la promozione culturale. 

“Creare significa muoversi costantemente nello spazio tra assenza e scoperta. Absent Findings nasce proprio da questa tensione: dal tentativo di rendere visibile l’assenza attraverso capi che uniscono memoria, architettura e identità in un linguaggio profondamente surrealista”, racconta Shivin Singh, il direttore creativo del brand.

The new Absent Findings collection serves as an extension of its predecessors: a continuous exploration of memory, surrealism, and garment.

Founded with the vision of being more than just a “fashion label,” Shivin Singh seeks to investigate the intersection of memory, architecture, and cultural heritage. Although the brand is based in Dubai, it maintains deep ties to Florence. The collection draws from forgotten fabrics, personal life narratives, and surrealist imagery to enrich both its poetic essence and technical execution. By combining innovation with minimalism, the collections are characterized by deconstructed elements, bold asymmetries, and unexpected silhouettes.

“Not What You Think”

Absent Finding’s FW2026/27 collection presents this new chapter as part of a long-term project aimed at defining its unique visual language. At its heart, the collection builds an emotional core. It captures the vividness of dreams, exploring liminal states within that emotional center. Moments feel intensely real and connected, yet they remain difficult to put into words.

The color palette is inspired by a painting by Francis Bacon, the designer’s favorite artist. Here, too, color is used emotionally, featuring muted tones alongside intense shades; the palette feels more psychological than decorative. The silhouettes follow the lineage of *Absent Findings*, characterized by elongated proportions, controlled draping, and structural elements that define the collection. Tailoring and construction are pushed to new heights.

Visual References of the Collection

The collection centers on architecture, surrealism, the sari, and memory, approached through an interior and dreamlike lens. For this reason, Shivin Singh draws from surrealist and avant-garde universes that explore the unconscious. One key reference was Salvador Dalí’s painting “Head of Roses,” which influenced the collection’s shapes and emotional dimension. This work translates into silhouettes that are precise yet fluid and intentionally unresolved.

David Lynch’s short films, “The Alphabet” and “Rabbits”-with their unsettling stillness and constant sense of unease-inspired the designer to imbue the garments with a feeling of being suspended in time. Inspiration is also drawn from the Sumerian priestly sculpture, *Prêtre Sumérien*. This lends the collection a sense of ritual, which is balanced by the modernism of the theatrical costumes created by Oskar Schlemmer during the Bauhaus era.

Collaborations

The brand collaborates with the AFRO Fashion Association, which highlights the inequalities and lack of representation affecting emerging African and BIPOC creatives. Unfortunately, this issue is not limited to the Italian system but affects the international fashion industry as well. Founded by Michelle Francine Ngonmo, the association is dedicated to promoting talent and serves as a bridge between creatives and the industry through mentoring, networking, and cultural promotion.

“Creating means constantly moving in the space between absence and discovery. Absent Findings was born from this very tension: from the attempt to make absence visible through garments that blend memory, architecture, and identity in a deeply surrealist language,” says Shivin Singh, the brand’s Creative Director.
