The following is an interview with Sara Caironi, Accademia del Lusso graduate and currently a Freelancer in the fashion industry.

Tell us about your academic journey at ADL.

I’m twenty-three years old and have been working for almost two years. I’m based in Milan but a Londoner at heart. The program I applied for was Fashion Styling & Editing taught by the wonderful Grace Coddington and Anna Wintour. Journalism and Graphic Design are a part of my daily work now. Thanks to Accademia del Lusso’s placement office, I found a job (my first job) only a handful of months after I graduated.

What kind of work do you do?

I work in the press office as a junior figure. I also take care of graphic design and I am a contriburing writer and blogger for a few blogs.

Attending a fashion school is a great way to get to know people from alla round the world that share your same interests. It’s also a great launching pad as far as job and internship opportunities are concerned.

In your opinion, what are the biggest obstacles for young graduates who aspire to become fashion industry professionals?

Sometimes it comes down to budgetary contraints, sometimes it’s a matter of the old guard not wanting to let young novices through. You need patience, confidence and competence to make it. The key is to stand out and to remember that you never stop learning. I recently completed two professional courses at Accademia (Editing Web & Blog, Commerce) and I am indipendently studying HTML5.

What if fashion to you?

Fashion? It’s something that you notice. Something that leaves it’s mark. It’s the persuit of something new and exciting. It’s the brazenness of Anna Dello Russo, the hilarity of Moschino, the dreams of Tim Walker, the essence of McQueen. It’s the talk of the town.
